What Happened?

🏦 Proposed Bank Strike Deferred

In a late-night development on 27 September 2026, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) deferred its planned three-day nationwide bank strike that was scheduled to begin on 28 September. The decision followed talks between the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and UFBU.

The two sides agreed to form a high-level committee to discuss the demand for declaring the remaining Saturdays as holidays. Discussions on the Performance Linked Incentive issue for certain senior officers and other pending matters will also continue. The five-day banking week has not been finally approved; it remains under discussion.

🤖 Project DRISHTI: AI for Freight-Wagon Security

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), in collaboration with IIT Guwahati, introduced Project DRISHTI, an AI-based system designed to monitor freight-wagon doors, locks and seals.

The system uses high-speed cameras, intelligent lighting, secure networking and Artificial Intelligence to identify possible irregularities and create digital inspection records. It is intended to reduce dependence on manual inspection, strengthen freight security and help railway staff respond faster to possible problems.

🏅 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026

India’s campaign continues at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. On 28 September, India’s scheduled events include shooting, archery, squash, boxing, cricket, hockey and athletics. The day’s programme includes India’s men’s cricket quarter-final against Afghanistan and several medal events.

🌏 UN Security Council Reform
